ABOUT THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Emilio José Baños Ardavín was born in the city of Monterrey, located at the State of
Nuevo León. He earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry Engineering from
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
In 1995, he joined the company Procter & Gamble, where he had a successful career of ten
years in the departments of marketing and product development. During this period, he
studied a master in Business Administration from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México
(ITAM).
In 2004 he and his family moved to the State of Puebla, where he became Chief Executive
Officer at the company Novoceramic until 2011. From that year, Dr. Baños Ardavín started
working as an independent contractor for real estate projects, as well as the distribution and
commercialization of construction materials.
At the beginning of 2012, he was invited to be a member of UPAEP’s Governing Board. In
November of that year, he left his appointment on the Board to accept the position of Chief
Executive Officer of Human Development and Administration. Later in April of 2013, the
Governing Board elected him President of UPAEP for the period from August 2013 to July
2016. Since then, he has been reelected two times, first in May of 2016 and again in August
2019, each time for three years.
In 2017 he earned a doctorate in History of Thought from Universidad Panamericana (UP).
From 2018 to 2020, he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Federation of
Private Mexican Institutions of Higher Education, FIMPES.
Dr. Baños Ardavín is UPAEP’s representative in the following organizations: National
Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (Spanish acronym: ANUIES);
Christus Muguerza’s Central Region Advisory Board; UNIVERSIA’s Board; the Governing
Board of Universidad Intercontinental; he is the representative at CENEVAL, a member of
the Board of Directors. At FIMPES as President of the Council and member of Legal Affairs
and International Mobility committees, and member of the Permanent Committee for
Research and Development of the Accreditation System. He also represents the private
universities consortium before the Citizen's Council for Public Security and Justice of the
State of Puebla.
